§ Aria — macOS

In development

Comments that live in the file.

Aria is a Markdown editor for the Mac with real review: margin comments, threads and suggested edits, saved in the plain .md file itself, where your coding agent can read them.

In development. No public build yet.

Why we're building it

We build software with Claude Code and Codex every day, and the agents write their plans as Markdown files. Reviewing one usually means quoting it back in chat: "in Goals, where you say five seconds…".

We wanted the review to stay in the file. Highlight a phrase, leave a comment, and it's saved next to the text it's about, in plain text, where the next agent session will see it.

§ 02 — Review

Comment, suggest, hand it back.

Comments sit in the margin, level with their text, with replies and a resolve button. Switch to Suggesting and your edits are marked instead of applied, each with accept and reject.

When you're done, Copy Review for Agent (⇧⌘R) puts every open comment on the clipboard with its section and quoted text, ready to paste into Claude Code, Codex or any chat.

  • Editing, Suggesting and Reading modes
  • Accept or reject one change, all of them, or by author
  • Accepted edits are listed for the agent, so it doesn't undo them
  • Copy Clean Markdown strips the review for sharing
Release notes in Aria's Suggesting mode: added text in green, removed text struck through in red, and a card for each change with accept and reject buttons.

§ 03 — The editor

A full Markdown editor around the review.

Formatting renders as you type, and ⌘/ shows the raw syntax. Tables stay tables, with cells you can type into, and frontmatter opens as a list of properties.

It's a native Mac app, written in Rust.

  • Tables with Tab between cells
  • Frontmatter as editable properties
  • Wiki links and relative links you can click through
  • Document tabs and a ⌘P file finder
A research note in Aria: four frontmatter properties above a four-column table comparing how kinds of apps handle offline edits.
